This is perfect for Friday - Shepherd's Bush is on show in the first minute or so of this film, in colour, from 1960 as the 607 trolleybus as it was then trundles through W12. Enjoy.
Note also the old BBC TV theatre, and the beautiful entrance to the 1908 Franco-British exhibition, which survived until 2006 when it was trashed to make way for the bus station at the Westfield shopping centre, despite huge local opposition.
I'm amazed that the bus only took about 1 hour to travel from Shepherds Bush to Uxbridge. You'd be so lucky to travel that distance on the bus nowadays - thanks so much for sharing this!
I wonder if people will look back on pictures of the Bush of today and say 'Look how it was before H&F local authority turned it into a high-rise yuppie housing estate and forced all the poor people out'?
I'm far far to young to have been around in the 60's - but I had the vague feeling back then the roads must have been very quiet, I thought car ownership was much lower than today ....However looking at the Ealing Common / Ealing Broadway section - seemed as busy as today??!!
Amazing how things changed.

ReplyDeleteOr was this prior to the A40 / M4 being built?
