As expected this planning application was duly approved and the pavillion on the Green will now become a large hotel with several hundred rooms. The best bit is that the facade is apparently to be retained with the hotel building work itself incorporating the existing look and taking place largely behind the building that you see from the Green.In recent years this building has acted as a huge home for the rats of the Green, some kind of religious venue and other assorted uses - but mostly just stood derelict. I think its great news that we're getting something that will actually contribute to the area.
It would be good if the building can be regenerated into something useful and that blends with the community. The hotel plan has had approval twice before so lets hope that this one is better and follows through. I hope that the residents in Pennard Road who will be most affected are listened to, given that they also have the Shepherds Bush Market issue on the other flank to deal with. but the rotting edifice of the "Pavillion" certainly needs some urgent attention. I ronic that a 3000 seat cinema is being built at Westfield when the old 3000 seat cinema on the Green is vacant!
