Some of you have written in saying that an air ambulance is on scene in Hammersmith to deal with the aftermath of a stabbing - I do hope this isn't the case, but as ever keep your fellow readers informed via the comments if you know something. Will update as news comes in ..
UPDATE - some reports say it took place in the bus station. Which would tally with school kicking out time. Nice.
1630 - A male has been taken away in an ambulance, it seems. Very heavy police presence
1640 - A reader has seen someone being handcuffed and taken away - this doesn't necessarily mean an arrest of a suspect in the stabbing but we shall see. I have put in a call to the Police press office and will share info as it comes in.
1705 - The Helicopter seems to be actively tracking a potential suspect to the stabbing. Meanwhile it appears according to the police that the 14 year old victim is in a "serious" condition in hospital. Please god let him be OK. We've had enough death and misery for one week.
1805 - Helicopters are gone. One of the commenters here named the possible victim but it's been pointed out to me that I can't really allow this since the victim is likely to be under 18. So please don't - I will have to delete comments that do. All we can do now is hope for the best for whoever this young lad is - whatever led up to this, the consequences for both him and whoever has allegedly inflicted these wounds will change some people's worlds forever.
1915 - A police spokeswoman has given me this statement:-
"We were alerted by the emergency services, There was a stabbing on Hammersmith Broadway. The London Air Ambulance Service attended"The spokeswoman said the teenager was in a "serious condition" as a west London hospital.
2000 - I've spoken to Hammersmith CID who have not confirmed the identity of the victim but have confirmed that they are not going to stand in the way of free speech if people want to name names. So I am not now deleting the name that keeps being used in the comments.
2010 - the victims' brother has sent an update from the hospital in the comments
2040 - A harrowing account of the stabbing has been sent to me by LBC Radio of a witness describing having seen 8 stabbing injuries on the 14 year old boy - who he says was robbed for his i-pod - and the paramedics cutting off the boys' shirt to try and save his life. It brings the brutal reality of it home. The passer-by sounds like he was the only person who really went to the boys' aid. I am really very grateful indeed to LBC Radio for sharing this with us - and to you the readers for doing what you always do and keeping each other informed. Stay safe people.
TUESDAY UPDATE: You can listen to the radio interview here - it is unedited and does contain swearing. Thanks very much again to LBC for letting me have this.
1400 UPDATE WEDNESDAY - Three arrests have been made according to a statement I have just received from the Police. A spokeswoman has confirmed that "three people in their mid-teens have been arrested in connection with the investigation. They remain in custody pending further enquiries".
You can also see how the national media tends to work in situations like this - take a look at this article written by lazy Evening Standard journalist Benedict Moore-Bridger. He has written an article that is completely lifted from this article but decided he didn't need to be honest with his readers about where he got the info from. So no acknowledgement either of this blog or the fact that the radio interview was conducted by LBC Radio. Sloppy, unprofessional and cynical. So look out for Mr Moore-Bridger's articles in future and ask yourself where he might have nicked his info from.
0530 UPDATE WEDNESDAY - It seems, according to his relatives writing here, that Shankai is in Paddington Hospital and stable. All fo our best wishes go to him I am sure. Thanks to his family for sharing this with us.
1330 UPDATE WEDNESDAY - the police have made a fourth arrest, again of a teenager. Here's the police statement:
"Police investigating the stabbing of a 14 year-old boy in Hammersmith Broadway on Monday 16 May, have arrested a fourth person in connection with the incident.
The boy [D] in his mid teens, remains in custody pending further enquiries.
Three people [A/B/C] in their mid-teens who were arrested between 16/17 May, have been bailed to a date in late June."
1130 UPDATE THURSDAY - Three boys have been charged.
Two 16 year-olds and a 17 year-old appeared at West London Youth Court this morning, 19 May charged with GBH with intent.
A fourth boy in his mid teens, who was arrested on 18 May in connection with the investigation, has been bailed to return pending further enquiries.
1800 UPDATE FRIDAY - Just hearing two more boys have been charged but awaiting final details
1800 UPDATE FRIDAY - Just hearing two more boys have been charged but awaiting final details
Yup, someone got stabbed, detectives in suits on the scene, they already took the victim away by ambulance. The air ambulance left as fast as it landed.
ReplyDeleteJust to precise, they took the victim by normal ambulance, the air ambulance probably wasn't necessary. They also arrested someone.
ReplyDeleteAir ambulance is still on scene in the NCP carpark on Hammersmith Grove, I can see it from my window - 3 guys jumped out and were taken off in a police van, I guess to the bus station.
ReplyDeleteAs at 4:30pm police chopper still circling Kensington Olympia / Shepherd's Bush.. can't have found the perpetrator..
ReplyDeleteWell maybe they have found one of the perps, because cops in uniforms handcuffed this chap, 20yo, orange sweater, black, in front of my office. (I'm opposite Disney with a direct view on the station). Sorry was mistaken about the air ambulance leaving. The victim was taken to hospital by a normal ambulance though, I'm sure of that.
ReplyDeleteKinda silly to use air ambulance when Charing Cross hospital is 2 min drive (ok ok, 20 min drive during peak hour) away.. but I can confirm I saw the red helicopter sweep over Kensington Olympia in the direction of Hammersmith earlier.
ReplyDeleteBut blue copper chopper is still circling Shepherd's Bush.. (4:38pm).
There has been a police helicopter circling over Richmond Way/Addison Gardens/Sinclair gardens area for 30 mins now
ReplyDelete3 young girls were taken away in a police car shortly aftre the ambulance took victim away
ReplyDeletePicture of police chopper that's doing the circling..
ReplyDeletehttp://i53.tinypic.com/2h4bzu1.jpg
Victim is allegedly a schoolboy, took place at the smaller outdoor bus station.
ReplyDeletethe air ambulance has just taken off from the car park outside of the train station
ReplyDeleteAnother picture of the police chopper that's STILL over Shepherd's Bush. (4:50pm)
ReplyDeletehttp://i53.tinypic.com/2rc0rdl.jpg
The copter has been hovering 4-5 mins over Sinclair Gds/Bolingbroke-ish? A bit hard to tell.
ReplyDeleteChopper parked over Kensington Olympia station.. not circling.. just hovering.. have they found their man?
ReplyDeleteThe helicopter was just directly over the bridge over the railway between Sinclair Road/Gardens and Holland Road.
ReplyDeleteStill circling over Bolingbroke Rd/Singclair Rd/Adison Gardens bridge..

@vicjo66 14yr old boy stabbed in #Hammersmith believed to be pupil from Richmond Park Academy
ReplyDeleteHelicopter appears to be focussing on Holland Road, just south of Addison Gardens. Police car parked outside property on Holland Road.
ReplyDeleteChopper seems to have gone (5:30pm).
ReplyDeleteANTI-KNIFE UK on FB
ReplyDeleteThis is very sad news and we hope that this young guy makes it.........but did hear a rumour that he may have not....but waiting to hear confirmed news.
This is happening too often now across the UK and yet people still think it is just a london or gang problem. Wake up and realise knife crime can effect any of us no matter where we live.
yes i hear he was attacked buy around 10 people he goes to Richmond park academy formally shene its becoming a joke the way people are behaving life is not a joke
ReplyDeleteThe boy is shankai, he got stabbed over nothing. he was minding his own buisness and that happens to him? He's Apparently In Hospital In A Coma.
ReplyDeleteStay Strong Shanks.
Much Love.
The guy who was handcuffed seemed to be being restrained as opposed to arrested...
ReplyDeleteit was he brother! he wanted to find out who done it andd get them back , RIP SHANKAI
ReplyDeleteShankai Ain't Dead, He's Just In A Critical Condition.
ReplyDeleteJust Pray He's Going To Be Okay And What Are You Talking About His Brother Done It ?
Love You Shanks, Hope For The Best (: xx
No there were reports someone was handcuffed and possibly arrested. I saw it happen, the guy - possibly the brother- was trying to get to the victim. If it was a suspect he would've been running away. I reckon police handcuffed him to stop him going over to the victim, so that paramedics could fo their work
ReplyDeleteShankai Is My Baby Brother, I Was There When It Happend So Before You People Go Assuming He Aint Dead, Im With Him Right Now In Charing Cross Hospital And He's Unconsious, To Tell The Truth To You People We Dont Know If He's Gonna Make It He's That Bad But Please Everyone Pray That Hes Going To Get Through This.
ReplyDeleteI Love You Shankai <3
Witnessed the aftermath panic and confusion from my office, thoughts are with the young lad and family hope they caught the perpetrators
ReplyDeleteWhere can we hear the clip?
ReplyDeletePraying for Shankai to pull through, thoughts are with him and his family.
ReplyDeleteOMG this is awful... I am praying for him from my heart. What is wrong with people today they feel they have the right to take someones life, this is someones child, this is a woman child who she has loved and raised... I can't believe this has happened in day light in hammersmith. I hope they catch the people and send them down for life because that is what they have tried very well to take, this boys life. Everyone close you eyes and pray and give him strength to get through this.....
ReplyDeleteThis keeps happening all the time until you get 15 years for carying a knife and life means life and a prison is a prison not a holiday home and a badge of honor..
ReplyDeleteWorth repeating >> "This keeps happening all the time until you get 15 years for carying a knife and life means life and a prison is a prison not a holiday home and a badge of honor.."
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know how this young boy is today? I can't find anything on the news! It is a joke! Like nothing has happened at all... Was he stabbed by other youths from school or another school? The schools need to take more responsibility. They need to introduced more education on knife crime, they need to do random bag searches. Hammersmith broadway at school time is manic, is is a mess. Maybe the schools need to breakout at different time. You have one rubbish security guard walking around, it needs to be policed better. Something needs to be done about knife crime in London. This is a joke!!!
ReplyDeleteWhatever happened to Boris' promises of knife arches around London stations?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/safe-travel-is-a-priority-says-new-mayor-821117.html
He really should have pushed that one through more.
How is Shankai this morning??..... we all have been prying through the night for him xxxx
ReplyDeleteLynda xxx
shankai was critical but stable last night he talking and alert and was not in charring cross for the person whom claims 2 be the victims sibling information. went to see the victim this morning and he state of condition took a turn for the worse during early hours so was unable to see him this morning. just keep praying xx
ReplyDeleteI thought you might find this interesting... today the police has a strong presence at the Broadway - ambulance parked on Talgart at the corner. Metal detector on the south exit. Just stopped a chap with a dog who was being aggressive a minute ago (the chap, not the dog)
ReplyDeleteChris: The Evening Standard have published your blog post, re-worded. Basically...
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/article-23950757-schoolboy-stabbed-eight-times-in-iphone-robbery-at-bus-station.do
Congratulations on the reporting of this incident. (Other sources/media inaccurate or copied from here). My child is in the same class as this boy - every mother's nightmare!
ReplyDeleteThanks, appreciated. Hope your kid is OK.
ReplyDelete"H&F News" is now reporting that the victim is stable:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/fulham-and-hammersmith-news/local-fulham-and-hammersmith-news/2011/05/17/teenager-stable-after-hammersmith-bus-station-stabbing-82029-28708511/
Yes, I must agree with the previous poster, when I was looking for info on this incident this was the only detailed account I could find.
ReplyDeleteWell done.
My son uses that bus station every day and I have spoken at length (to his great annoyance) about just such a scenario and how to try to be vigilent.
My heart (all our hearts!) goes out the parents of this boy and I am praying for his complete recovery and gratitude to that passer-by who assisted the young victim.
I read that there have been three arrests of teenagers. This is alos a tragedy that three young lives have become infected/blighted with this violence. It is impossible to conceive how someone can do this to another human being and not understand or have become immuneed to the tragic consequences.
How can such a thing happen?
Where are the parents of these knife and gun carriers????
ReplyDeleteMy sone also uses that bus station and we live next the Lakside road shooting that happened last week.
ReplyDeleteI've always told my son "if anyone asks for your phone, just give it to them".
What a scary world we live in where children are taking lives!
The local school had some sort of outreach person come in to talk about gun/knife crime and it was scary stuff! My son also had trusted prisoners come in to talk to the kids. What more can be done?
I hope the boy makes a full recovery.
Thought you might like to know you have been credited by @RichmondTimes

No news of the boy's condition this evening. No news is good news, right?
ReplyDeleteThats right...we still want to know how he is tho xx Lynda
ReplyDeletecould somebody please post an update on his progress?xx
ReplyDeleteYes, eagerly waiting for an update on the lad's progress.Thanks. Also if anyone knows the family please pass on the concerns and thoughts of a lot of people here. Robin
ReplyDeleteShankais Okay Hes In Paddington Hospital And For The Person Who Said That He Wasn't In Charring Cross, He Was At First But He Got Transfered. He Is Now In Paddington Hospital And Is Talking And Getting Better As We Speak, People Are Not Allowed To See Him Unless You Are Family As The Doctors Say He Needs Rest, So Its All Good News So Far.

ReplyDeleteGreat News to hear that Shanka is doing well!
ReplyDeleteWill continue to pray for him. Robin.
Thanks for the update. Keep us posted...
ReplyDeleteLook, I don't mean to be insensitive, but this is very unlikely to have anything to do with iphones or other gadget. Kid was in shock, so he said what came to mind 'where is my iphone'. Doesn't mean he was robbed and stabbed for his iphone. Based on the kind of people were 'on his side', and the kind of chatter online about this 'my boi this, blood that', we aren't exactly talking about poor little kid being stabbed randomly by a stranger for his electronic gadget.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I do hope he recovers fully soon. No one deserves what happened to him.
Where do these evil children come from .... what happened to make them like this ?

So true people dont know the full story but are too quick to jump to conclusions, this boy was far from innocent... probably had a weapon himself
Even so, a 14 year old boy has been stabbed...
ReplyDeleteHi Chris, I am Shankai's maternal Aunt Jennifer and I have listen and read all the above blogs and radio report from LBC radio.
ReplyDeleteFirstly, Shankai is critical but stable within a Paddington Hospital and thank you for all the positive statements said.
Secondly, my nephew Shakiel did not blog to Bebo
regarding the status and whereabouts of his brother (with the Cap Lock on every word!)
Thirdly , can the person whose blog this is contact me immediately.
Thank you
Mr Benedict (Prick) Moore-Bridger the so-called Evening Standard journalist writing in his column stated "Schoolboy stabbed eight times in iphone robbery at bus stop".
ReplyDeleteMy nephew does not own a iPhone!
How do you know how many times Shankai was stabbed?
I and the community will now be reading and following all your work for it's factuality and authenticity from now on.
N.B Shankai will not be receiving any visitors as he has to rest. His wounds are life threatening and he needs complete rest.
I do know that Shankai would appreciate the kind and thoughtful gesture of cards being sent to him.
PLEASE DO NOT VISIT THE HOSPITAL UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE FROM HIS FAMILY!
Hi Jeni - you can reach me on shepherdsbushblog@yahoo.co.uk
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update on Shankai - and I couldnt agree more about Benedict Moore-Bridger. The worst case of cut n' paste "journalism" I have seen in a long time.
Chris
To the negitive person who wrote this..."So true people dont know the full story but are too quick to jump to conclusions, this boy was far from innocent... probably had a weapon himself"....
ReplyDeleteHypocrit!!...it was said by an eye witness that he was sitting there minding his own business and was very scared...so if you were not there dont make asumptions like that....not all teenagers are evil minded knife and gun carries... you have a very single minded attudie!!!!!!!
Knife crime is unfortunately on the rise and has reached our schools - something HAS to be done. The victims are getting younger and younger. It is a sad world we live in when children are no longer having playground scuffles but are instead resorting to weapons.
ReplyDeleteListenening to the 'buzz' around Hammersmith they say he and his friends have a 'reputation' and are not surprised at what has happened.
I hope this is not so and I hope, if God forbid it is true, that they will see the true harm this causes to everyone involved. Let's also hope that there are no 'revenge' attacks.
All - keep talking to each other, that's what the blog is for, but do please try and stop short of making accusations about people.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing we know for sure is that a young lad is in a bad way in hospital after being attacked - there have been two debates on this blog in the last week about why this sort of thing is hapenning and what we can do about it - that's got to be a good debate to have if we can keep it respectful.
Children should not be getting stabbed - end of!
ReplyDeleteis it getting worse?
ReplyDeleteIn the 80's to early 90's this area w12 and w6 was not much better. In those days H&F even had the highest murder rate of any borough in the country 2 years running! Indeed between 1990 and 1991 I knew 2 friends that were stabbed, inocent victims of muggings or arguements. I was a victim of a group mugging at the age of 14 by a gang in hammersmith broadway while over 50 people just walked by. WWorst of all though a (white) boy I knew went off the rails after getting into drugs and shot a shopkeeper, dead, in broad daylight, for just £5 (he was only just 15).
In my opinion on the ground its much the same as before. Just as many crazy kids, drugs, young boys out to proove themselves, and inocent people getting caught up. One major change is we all have mobiles/internet now and there is more reporting, (with new local bloggers such as chris). There is more communication more awareness and much more hysteria, where as before most people just did not know what was going on. Lets please use our improved communication as a tool to help, and understand each other more and not walk by.
A word of warning to all is that this effects all of us. Its not a race issue, or an age issue its societies issues and we are are all in it together. Anyone can get caught up in it, so please give eachother more understanding.
My thoughts are with the family of the young lad I hope you all pull through, together and stronger.
Today I pray again for Shankai and his family, my heart goes out to his mother, as I too am a mother with a 14 year old son.
ReplyDeleteTo the young people who think it is ok to take or try to take another life, please take into consideration life is for living and not for you to take away.
Empower yourself with Education, Respect is something you Earn not Demand. Let today be the start of all positives things to come into your life. Believe in yourself and others will believe in you.
Too many young people are dying for nothing. You are all supposed to be the future, but if this behaviour continues there will be no future. Go out of your way to surround yourself with positive Role Models/friends and don't look at the people who are worst of than you, look at those who aspire to be and do better, then follow in their footsteps.
I pray that you will all look at this, another young life which could have been taken and learn from it. To make a change we must also sometimes change our attitudes.
To the young people who are already aspiring to reach their goals, continue to do so and do not let anyone or anything get in the way of your dreams. Well done!
Today I pray for Shankai, his family and for change.
HAVE A BLESSED DAY.

I am sorry to hear of the stabbing of Shankai and I hope that he will pull through. I am so shocked to hear this and hope the attackers are brought to justice. I think education and awareness of gun/knife crime can only do so much, parents need to take more of a stance and ownership of what their children get up to these days. Further action needs to be taken and a strong presence from the Police needs to be evident or such horrid crimes like this will still continue. I bet the attackers are already known to the Police. We need society to wake up and help our children to stay safe. Peace.
ReplyDeleteI agree parents need to take responsibility for theri children, for thats what they are. So often I hear parents saying 'I can't make him' 'He wont lsiten'Well children are not born difficult but the way we raise them makes them what thay are. The parents of those children need to take a long hard look in the mirror and think what did I do, how am I responsible and remember they are your children and you are the adult and they are the child. You can expect from them and say no, dont indulge, dony condone or support or exuse their difficult behaviour at school then be surprised when they act with violence when challenged. My own son was hiy repeatedly by a child whose mother said her son son wouldnt do such a thing and my son must have 'Done somthing to wind him up'. Well my child is in school doing well and on track for A levels, hers is not in school, has a record for theft and still its everyone elses fault.
ReplyDeleteI have read all the posts and can tell you first hand that this was not an innocent attack on a young person. It was targeted attack. This so called young person that everyone is feeling sorry for has stabbed -(and i dont need to use the phrase allegedly) many other young people him self. What happened here is simply a case of if you play with fire you will get burned. To be quite frank i predict a few more stabbings this summer. *mark my words*
ReplyDeleteHes not innocent it wasnt for a fone stop puttin dirt on peoples namez lyk sum1 wud stab him up for no reason kmt

18 May 2011 09:26"
to who ever said that LOL
you obviously dont know the story
this was'nt a robbery, or a bunch of boys picking on him.
shankai wasnt a calm boy
the guy who done it was doing as revenge on shankai as shankai sliced the boy in the face.
dont get me wrong
no one deserves to be stabbed and i feel for the boys mum and brother.
BTW THE BLACK MALE SHORTLY ARRESTED AFTER THE STABBING WAS INDEED HIS BROTHER. THEY ARRESTED HIM BECAUSE HE WAS PUSHING POLICE OFFICERS AND EVEN GRABBED ONE.
I hope he pulls through and the guys who done it will be brought to justice. but i hope shankai will understand that playing with knifes aint a joke.
my names Alex MCcarthy.
So the rumour is that Shankai sliced a boy in his face??
ReplyDeleteAnd the revenge is attempting to kill him by waiting for him like prey and several youths stabbing him!! How evil is that!!
Children please wise up and pick up your books and educate yourselves instead of picking up knives and guns!!
What kind of future are we to have when the children who are our future are killing and hurting each other so badly!!
Whose gonna be the next top doctor to find the cure for cancer etc.. whose gonna be the next top scientist, top teacher????
This is ridicolous!! And we cant always be blaming the parents, yes maybe they need to be more aware of what their children are getting themselves involved in but I believe the children all too often are making the wrong choices in life and this is not the fault of the parents!!
Children you need to make yourselves and your parents proud!!!
do
ReplyDeleteIts not a rumour that he sliced someone its the truth
ReplyDeleteTruth or Lies is not what is important, what is important is how we make changes. We can keep writing about who did what to who and continue to gossip, but this is not making any difference. I was hoping all the young people reading and writing on this blog, would speaking about how they can unity together to make a difference.
ReplyDeletePlease change the conversation and start to make positive out of something something so negative.
Remember! You are the future.
I am reading this with sadness, an eye for an eye will make many people blind. Parents bring your children up with love, respect and a feeling of safety. When you fear you fight or flight. Unless we adults start taking control, if we are depressed, sort it out, if we are with a bad partner leave them, if we don't know our children's friends are meet them. Don't worry about embarrassing our children with insisting with boundaries etc, because yes parents can not be blamed for everything our children choose to do, but we sure can shape their morals, expectations, life they want to lead, friends they choose and their personal inner strength. I hope all the troubled youth of today can find that inner strength to change their lives for the better.
ReplyDeleteAs a parent I agree 100% with the previous blog. Parents, please wake up to what is happening to our children out there.
ReplyDeleteYes parents open your eyes and wise up get to know your childrens friends if you do not, invite them round for tea, check them out! You may be able to recognise a childs negative vibe!! Not that its about blaming friends for what children do for they are responsible for their own actions.
ReplyDeleteWhere is the love?? There is none out there on the streets where the children love to hang sometimes like they have no home!!!
It costs nothing to love!! It costs lives when there is hate!!!
Peace and love is what we need to make this place a better place for us all to be free to live in harmony!!!
I'm sure you children would love it a whole lot better if you were not continually at war with each other but just enjoyed your lives being children as those years are supposed to be the best days of your lives!!!
Peace and love and blessings!
god bless shankai
