Hammersmith and Fulham MP Greg Hands has today submitted a complaint about Employment Minister Tony McNulty’s expenses that have been widely reported over the weekend.
Personally I don’t know which is more newsworthy about this for us, either that Greg Hands is referred to as the “MP for Hammersmith and Fulham” even though he does not represent most of the borough, Andy Slaughter does. Or that Mr Hands belongs to the party which gave us Neil Hamilton, Cash-for-questions and sleaze!
On balance I think I’m more annoyed at him being referred to as the MP for Hammersmith and Fulham. He isn’t.
You said that you annoyed that Greg Hands keeps being referred
ReplyDeleteto being the MP of Hammersmith and fulham. He is the MP for Hammersmith and fulham.
The constituency covers the central and southern portions of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, covering the town centres of both Hammersmith and Fulham. But it also includes smaller districts, like West Kensington, Brook Green, Barons Court and Sands End.
Andy Slaughter is MP for Ealing, Acton and for some reason Sheperds Bush gets put in with Ealing even thought its part of Hammersmth.
Yes but my point is he is not the MP for where I live, which is in Hammersmith and Fulham, nor anywhere near the Shepherds Bush end of the Borough. I dont blame Greg Hands for this because its in the gift of the boundaries commission - they just got it wrong thats all.
ReplyDeleteThe political relevance of this is that the Conservatives are trying every means at their disposal to get their candidate for the newly named Hammersmith Constituency (which is the bit that covers Shepherds Bush and W12 and formerly known as Ealing Acton and Shepherds Bush) elected.
Thats completely their right and I quite like Shaun Bailey their candidate, but the misnaming of the constituency places Andy Slaughter at a political disadvantage - he is just as much a Hammersmith and Fulham MP as Greg Hands is. And thats not fair!
